- Desktop tools
- Microsoft Project: great set of features, standard MS Office UI, complex to use, hard to learn
- Planner: Open-source, cross-platform tool for basic project planning, using Gantt charts as the main asset
- Cloud based tools
- Microsoft Project Server: multi-user, cloud based version of MS Project. The most feature rich ecosystem, that is costly to use.
- Collabtive: a basic multi-user open-source tool for task and budget management of multiple simple projects
- DotProject: a mature but outdated, extensible open-source tool for project management – feature rich with customer management capabilities.
- ProjectPier: a pleasant to use open-source tool especially for the project management needs for SMEs with a few projects and users to control.
- Codendi: a feature rich open-source ecosystem especially to manage and collaborate on software projects.
