9.3 Modelling the project

Scope

  • PRINCE2 uses the Product Breakdown Structure that is a scope tree of the project (e.g. systems and subsystems of a software application)
  • PMBok uses the Work Breakdown Structure that is an extended PBS scope tree: it contains all deliverables (not just systems and subsystems but the required manual and training materials, service descriptions, etc. as well)
  • Agile expresses the scope in terms of features, epics and user stories

Time

  • PRINCE2 uses milestones, stages, work packages and tasks with deadlines
  • PMBok uses milestones
  • Agile uses short iterations (sprints in Scrum)
  • Lean uses (very) short iterations (e.g. through Kanban)
