First Asked Questions

  Third Workshop on Global Optimization

 Szeged, Hungary, December 10-14, 1995

Q.: How much time is needed for the transfer from the Airport Budapest (Ferihegy) to the Budapest Nyugati Station?

A.: We suggest the shuttle (about 600 HUF = 5 USD, 30-60 Minutes), in contrast to the taxi (about 2000 HUF = 15 USD, 20-40 Minutes). Be aware of the sometime greedy and cheating taxi drivers.

Q.: What to do if I have an extra free day?

A.: We suggest to have a sightseeing tour in Budapest, or have the Xmass shopping.

  Q.: How to change money?

A.: The best is to change some money (we suggest 50 USD) at the Airport, and then the rest in Szeged. We have also automatic bank services (for the major credit cards: Visa, Master Card, Eurocard, American Express). Choose always an office, 'private exchange' can be dangerous.

Q.: What about flying to Vienna?

A.: It is also a possiblity. The train takes about 3 hours from Vienna to Budapest. If you cannot find a direct flight to Budapest, than it is an option. On the other hand, it is definitely more convenient to fly to Budapest (and the costs and flying time is also similar).

Q.: What to do if I arrive after 20:00 in the evening to Budapest?

A.: There are some possibilities to travel to Szeged in the night, but we suggest to spend that night in Budapest, and come to Szeged in the next morning. The hotel prices in Budapest are similar or lower than those in West-Europe. You can check which day you have your talk (see the volume of extended abstracts).

Q.: I'll arrive by car. How to find the Hotel Forras?

A.: If you arrive from the direction of Budapest, then follow the road that leads to Mako, Arad, Bucuresti (Roumania). After passing a bridge over the Tisza river, you are within 400 meters to the Hotel - ask somebody to find the way. We cannot put a scanned-in plan on this www-site due to copyright reasons (but you will obtain a plan when you register).

Q.: What is the cheapest way to travel 1. from the Airport to the Nyugati Station (2. from the Keleti Station to the Nyugati Station)?

A.: Buy at least 2 bus/tram tickets, 1. travel by public transportation bus to the Kobanya-Kispest station (endstation), change to the blue metro (the only one there), and travel to the Nyugati Station (2. first by the red metro to the Deak ter [Deak square], and then with the blue one to the Nyugati Station). One ticket costs 36 HUF = 30 cents.

Q.: How can I get to the hotel?

A.: The organizers try to meet participants at the Szeged train station (Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning). If you miss us, take a taxi, and drive to the Forras Hotel (a 5-7 km trip, costs about 5 USD).
