Nowadays, embedded systems such as mobile phones, digital cameras, GPS receiviers... are becoming more and more widespread. It means that the corresponding knowledge is also becoming increasingly important.

Our department has been involved in an active cooperation with Nokia for more than 10 years. The researchers of the department have been working on following key-topics.

• Compiler techniques:
  • Improving Symbian developer GCC
  • Improving ARM backend of GCC

• Flash file system development:
  • JFFS2, the recent Linux flash file system improvements: compression and mount (boot) time speed up
  • UBIFS, the new generation flash file system: taking part in design and implementation

• Mobile applications:
  • SmartECG: mobile ECG application for Nokia 700/N800

Our teachers and invited experts from Siemens PSE offer a high level course on these topics in our Embedded Systems Laboratory.
