Open Source Laboratory
Open source and free software have much potential in terms of industrial development and education. Our department has partners who sponsor us to develop industrial software components using free software development techniques.
Our most relevant results:
- Linux kernel related development:
- JFFS2, the recent Linux flash file system improvements: compression and mount (boot) time speed up
- UBIFS, the new generation flash file system: taking part in design and implementation
- WebKit improvements
- JavaScript execution performance improvements, ARM JIT
- Memory management, custom allocator support
- Qt layouting
- Qt build system, build bots
- Open standards related topics:
- Open Medical: a collection of corresponding free standards, free softwares
- Metabolism: developing the information system of the Metabolism Laboratory of the University of Szeged at the Department of Paediatrics, and of more than 80 hospitals in Hungary
Most of our results have been accepted by the community and become part of the Linux kernel or GCC codebase.
We also offer a course on free software technology and organize the Software Freedom Day in Hungary every year.
