Conclusion
Two approaches to making use of orientation information for defect detection were presented:
- Circular-centered top-hat
- Labelled opening top-hat
These approaches have been tested on a database of 60 images with good results.
Orientation information on its own is not sufficient for defect detection, as not all vein orientation perturbations are due to defects.
However, the results of one of these operators could be useful as input to a fuzzy decision making process along with other defect characteristics.
