Conclusions & Future work
- We used a series of Spherical Harmonics, which are well behaved functions with many interesting properties (e.g. orthogonality), to create shape descriptors.
- There is an interesting potentiality for rotation invariant descriptors, by rotating the object to canonical positions in object and parameter space.
- Next step : Representation of continuous functions on arbitrary surfaces using FEM and Splines, using the parametric representation.
- Multiresolution approach to the spherical harmonics representation by using triangular mesh and possibly wavelets in order to increase speed and reduce cost.
