Gyula Mester was born in Debeljaca, Yugoslavia, 1945. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Belgrade, Serbia in 1967 and 1970 respectively. He received his D. Sc. degree in Engineering from the University of Novi Sad in 1977. From 1983-1987 he was director of the Institute of Automation Subotica. From 1987-2000 he was head of the Neuro-Fuzzy-Genetic Intelligent Control Research Center Subotica. From 1983 he was professor for undergraduate and graduate courses teaching mechanics, robotics and soft computing at the University of Novi Sad. Currently, he is a Professor at the University of Szeged, Department of Informatics.

Dr. Gyula Mester is author of one research monograph „Robot Dynamics and Control", published by the Institute of Automation, Subotica, (1995). He is author of 132 research papers. He is an invited reviewer of more scientific journals in the field of interest. He was a guest scientist at the University Aachen, Germany 1986 and at the University Manchester, United Kingdom1992, University Maribor, Slovenia, 2005, University of Ilmenau Germany 2005. His professional activities include R/D in different fields of robotics engineering and soft computing: Intelligent Mobile Robots, Intelligent Autonomous Systems, Humanoid Robotics, Intelligent Control of Manipulation Robots, Modeling, Simulation, Adaptive Robot Control Systems, Fuzzy Control in Robotics, Application of Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms in Robotics, Internet-Based Robotics.

He won a special award from the American Biographical Institute: Man of the Year 1997. His CV was published in the Marquis "Who’s Who in the World 1997".
