Wood texture
The texture algorithms presented are mainly for species which have a very marked vein pattern.
The main texture characteristics in a small neighbourhood are
- The principal orientation of the veins.
- The spacing between the veins.
The algorithms create two reduced-size images summarising the distribution of the local orientation and inter-vein spacing
- The initial board image is divided into overlapping equal-size neighbourhoods.
- Each pixel in a reduced image encodes the value of a characteristic in the corresponding neighbourhood.
