The Department of Software Engineering (DSE) operates within the Institute of Informatics at one of the leading universities in Hungary, the University of Szeged. It conducts researches in the field of software quality, embedded systems, computer networks and open source, .Net and Java technologies. It has long been in close cooperation with substantial international and national industrial partners in several joint R&D projects. The scientific achievements of the researchers working at DSE are well justified by the great number of publications in prestigious scientific journals and conference proceedings.

Besides the research activities, the researchers of the department participated in the organization of the 2002 European Conference on Software Maintenance and Reengineering (CSMR2002) and the 2005 International Conference on Software Maintenance (ICSM2005), and will organize the 8th joint meeting of the European Software Engineering Conference and the ACM SIGSOFT Symposium on the Foundations of Software Engineering in 2011: ESEC/FSE 2011.
